Do the Right Thing (continued)

Ever since the special election in Massachusetts, the Democratic electorate have been running and hiding like usual.

Its true if they pass health reform they may lose their jobs, but they would have done the right thing for the people.

I also think it would be easier to justify your job, if you have actually accomplished something, as opposed to caving to the pressure again. Will the Dems ever learn?

Will Bank Reform Create a Divide Between The GOP and the Tea Party?

The President picked a fight with the Big Banks and Wall Street yesterday, a fight that should have been fought before Health Care, but a fight nonetheless.

“Never again,” he said, “will the American taxpayer be held hostage by a bank that is too big to fail.”

Although Congress has been working on reform for a year now, it is finally coming to the forefront of the Obama Administrations priorities, partly because the people spoke in Massachusetts, and partly because the Banking industry has been plunging millions of dollars into D.C. to lobby reform away. This populist move by the President should create an interesting dichotomy between the GOP and the Tea Party folks, who have called for justice in respect to the financial bailout and TARP.

The President put it this way.

In announcing his proposals Thursday at the White House, Mr. Obama said if the financial industry wanted a fight over new restrictions, it was a fight he was ready to have.

But what does this mean for the GOP? Will the party of "NO" actually fight bank reform? Will they back guys like Warren Buffett who believes the Bank Tax is unfair? But does Buffett think the tax is unfair? Or that his investment of millions of dollars into Goldman Sachs is at risk? I'm not sure Mr. Buffett is going to be creditable on this issue.

What will happen with the Tea Party crowd? will they become fractured? Obviously Bank Reform is needed so we don't make the same mistakes of the recent past. But will the Tea Party crowd back reform? Even though it is imposed upon by the Government? Not to mention an Obama Government? Or will they actually support the big banks? Which would be a hypocritical move to say the least.

Can you see why Obama wants to have this fight? Simply, if there is one thing less popular then Obama's health care bill, it is the Bankers and Wall Street, who's risky behavior got our economy into this mess.

What will happen next will be very interesting to say the least, a continued obstructionist GOP, could be committing political suicide before the mid term election, if they oppose reform. While an already angry tea party, may very well look like, just an angry mob if they take a partisan stance on the issue of bank reform.

Only time will tell.

Elizabeth Warren is the chair of the TARP Congressional Oversight Panel, and probably the most creditable source when it comes to the inner workings of TARP and the Bailout. She is a breath of fresh air, in a room full of political hot air.

Abraham Lincoln was Gay?

I saw this interview with a "historian" who claims that Abraham Lincoln was gay.

I started to think about all the subjects that are being refuted these days, issues that were logically based like Global Warming, and Darwinism, are now under attack.

With that being said, I can honestly say, I didn't expect Lincoln's sexuality to be called into question.

I guess I'm wondering, if in this day and age, if I'm a skeptic or mainstream?

I believe that human consumption and output is having an effect on the Worlds climate. I don't know precisely how much or to what degree, but I feel strongly that it is very logical that our presence on this planet has consequences.

I also still believe in Darwin's Origin of Species, and believe his basic framework was revolutionary and brilliant. I still believe Darwin fits into Gods plan. Although, our current climate in America may find that to he hypocritical. Which seems sad.

I also believe that Abraham Lincoln was straight. You know why? Because nobody can keep a secret for that long. I don't care if he was playing hide the salami with his neighbor, even during that period of time, somebody would have written a memoir, or gave a death bed confession, saying they were Lincoln's lover.

But this is my point with all the above examples, is Global Climate Change really a big secret? A secret being kept by the worlds scholars? To do what? Make us buy a prius? Or make us stop using oil? There are more then 2500 world scientists in 15 different languages, that are hiding the truth about Global Climate Change? It doesn't add up.

Now were just finding out that Darwin was wrong? That the scientists of the world knew it, and still know it, but are abiding by its principles to discredit God? Many ID advocates think if they discredit Darwin, they can get God back into the schools. Does that sound like science? sounds like they are working backward to get what they want. But I admit to not be an expert on the theory.

What I do know about intelligent design is that it states the world is less then 10,000 years old, for me that's a deal breaker. Saying that carbon dating is flawed is one thing, but it doesn't prove anything. Proving the planet is 10000 years old, in more then one way, proves the ID theory, not the disapproval of a common theory, like carbon dating. With the ID theory being so weak, in my opinion, and Darwin's theory so plausible, it still doesn't shake my faith in God.

Isn't that the point of faith?

In today's world, would I be considered a skeptic, or am I mainstream? My Dad would say I am Liberal, I guess I am if Climate Change, and Darwin are qualifiers, but I will tell you one thing, I don't believe Lincoln was gay.

Not that there is anything wrong with that!

One election doesn't make a mandate.

If Obama doesn't have a mandate after a landslide win a year ago, The GOP doesn't have a mandate because of a Special Election in Massachusetts, and 41 seats in the Senate.

The same people in Massachusetts who voted for Scott Brown, voted for Barack Obama. Those mostly independent voters are fed up with nothing getting done in Washington.

Yet, the Democratic Party are running away from health care reform, faster then light shed on a cockroach. Would someone remind the Dems that they have already passed health care in the Senate.

To start over on health care because of a special election in Massachusetts is ridiculous. To take it slow and piece by piece doesn't make sense at all. You have debated over the bill for months now, the CBO has scored it, it bends the cost curve, and reduces the deficit while covering 30 million more Americans.

The Republicans choose to sit it out, not because they disagreed with what was purposed, because they refused to even take a seat at the health care reform table. They wanted to hand Obama a defeat, plain and simple. Not because they had a plan to do health care better, but because they wanted to look like Washington D.C. outsiders for the upcoming mid term elections. A brilliant plan to win an election, but what does that do for health care?

This obstructionist behavior was the GOP magic bullet, it caused Democrats to compromise with idiot senators like Ben Nelson, and Blanche Lincoln, to get a bill passed. It prolonged the debate and made Washington D.C. look like well, Washington D.C.

However, this GOP win doesn't change the fact that health care needs to be accomplished, and it certainly doesn't mean that you start all over again. Starting over again falls into the same trap. The trap of slowing everything down and making you look incompetent, like the Dems have looked for the past year.

All while the GOP look like the outsider complaining about politics as usual, while they use every political trick in the book to make it look that way.

What the Democrats must first understand, is that the people don't care how they are being obstructed. They care about results.

So pass that fucking health care bill and get moving towards easier to comprehend reform. The American people will thank you later, when they can get health care easier and cheaper all while, not going bankrupt if they get ill.

As Paul Krugmann wrote today, incremental steps to pass health care is like a one legged stool.

When that is complete, go after the banks, and wall street, make them pay back the people. Let the Republicans, support the people who blew up the housing bubble. Watch the tea party split, because Ron Paul will support banking regulation, while many of the GOP will try to fight the reform, because it has come from Obama, and they would not have realized their waterloo as of yet.

Do this while talking about the economy, and how the Energy Technology Era can help bring back American jobs, and manufacturing, all while making us more energy independent and thus less attached to the foreign dictators of the Middle East. Show how cap and trade mitigated acid rain , and how it will lessen our addiction to non-renewable energy sources, while helping add jobs.

To begin this dialogue and reform that is so important to the future of America, a momentum must be started with a passing of health care legislation, that shows the American people something has been done.

If the Senate was a Football Team.

As many of my friends and family know, almost everything one way or another reverts back to sports in my life.

And when I see the U.S. Senate and politicians in general, whine and cry and filibuster, it just makes my stomach turn.

It makes me wonder what things would be like if Knute Rockne were president. Can you imagine the State of the Union?

I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe a little locker room talk would wake the nation politically. I mean shit, Scott Brown, posed nude, drove a pick up truck, and yelled cut taxes and he won.

What if Obama framed Health Care something like this at the State of the Union.

Before we throw in the Health Care towel, listen to me now.

To Congress:

You work for the people, not the people who give you the most money.

Not a soul in this nation, thinks we do not need Health Care Reform.

Not a Soul!

Yet we continue to act like a bunch of spoiled children, trying to show the new guy who's boss. Well I'm not your boss.

The people you are denying affordable Health Care are.

Let me paint you a picture of my first year in office.

My first year was like a new head coach, taking over a big time college football program.

Lets call this team the Senators.

I have a roster of 100 men and women, and 40 of them used to be starters on this team. They started on a team that went 1-15 in 8 years. A team I used to play for.

The one win came after 9-11, when we came together and rallied as a nation, as a team. But that win was short lived, we quickly reverted back to our "me first" attitude, resulting in a 8 year drought that directly led to my hiring.

Suddenly the 40 starters on that 1-15 team are now relegated to the bench and practice squad, but still vitally important to the success of the team.

Those 40 now 41 players are angry, and more importantly resolute in their stance that they should be starters, although there on the field performance said otherwise.

They are determined to filibuster the teams progress, furthering their personal gain, while trying to retain that starting spot. Thus letting down their teammates, and the students and faculty of the college, not to mention the thousands of loyal fans who count on the team to work together.

Senators, are you on this team? Do you work for the people? Do you see the need for Health Care Reform?

Or do I need to revert back to politics as usual and parade out a number of people who can't afford Health Care? Or are bankrupt because of no coverage?

Do I really need to do that? Do I need to show you the cost of doing nothing?

I am asking the 40 players to join this team, and fight for the American people. Do your job and put together a Health Reform Bill that I can sign and that will allow our nation to prosper now and in the future. Come to the table and put your ideas to the test, and stand for something besides party.

Stand for the people.

Now go out there and save 18,000 to 45,000 lives a year.

Maybe a little Belushi can inspire those Congressional A-holes to do something right.

Brown Wins with Class

While listening to Scott Browns acceptance speech, I could see what the people of Massachusetts saw in him.

I especially liked what he said about Ted Kennedy.

His words

"This special election came about because we lost someone very dear to Massachusetts, and to America. Senator Ted Kennedy was a tireless and big-hearted public servant, and for most of my lifetime was a force like no other in this state. His name will always command the affection and respect by the people of Massachusetts, and the same goes for his wife Vicki. There's no replacing a man like that, but tonight I honor his memory, and I pledge my very best to be a worthy successor."

The irony tonight was unmistakable, with a GOP successor not only taking the seat long held by Kennedy, but also possibly being the deciding vote to kill Health Reform.

With that said, Brown did a noble thing recognizing the fallen public servant.

Dead on Arrival

With the historic victory by Scott Brown in the special election in Massachusetts. The GOP now has its 41st vote in the Senate.

Although far for any type of majority, the GOP can complete their goal of stopping Health Care Reform with a filibuster.

But not only that, I'm sure the conservative Democrats in the senate have heard the other foot drop, and are re-thinking any thing to do with Health Care.

That being said, if the Obama administration allows the Health Care Bill passed by the Senate, go through conference and return to said Senate for another vote, I guarantee that bill is Dead on Arrival. There are simply to many conservative Democrats who will be thinking about job security, instead of falling on the sword for the American people without health care.

The only way for Health Reform to pass this year or in the next generation for that matter, is for the House to pass the already approved Senate Bill as is.

Does Nancy Pelosi and the Obama White house have the pull to make this happen?

Judging by the management skills I have seen in the last month regarding the Massachusetts special election, I will not hold my breath. But I truly hope so, because I really believe it is in the best interest of our country.
